Lex Luthor, Doomsday, Darkseid – whenever such villains threaten earth or the innocents living on it, Superman shall emerge to restore what was wronged to what is right.
Almost immediately before the destruction of planet Krypton, Jor-El sent his infant son, Kal-El, in a spaceship headed to Earth. Jor-El, a scientist, wanted to save his son from the planet’s impending doom, an observation that he had detected many months earlier.
On Earth, the baby Kal-El was discovered among the field inside his crash-landed spaceship by Jonathan and Martha Kent who became his adopted parents. Named Clark Kent, the kid was raised as a normal farm boy but mysteriously exhibited superhuman powers quite early. He ran faster and took a lot more punishments than normal teenagers. Mild Mannered Reporter, Clark Kent
Sometime between his teenage years and adulthood, Clark Kent decided to use his superpowers for the benefit of the human race. He became Superman when saving people, and kept his alter ego, Clark Kent, as a secret to the world. Just like Batman’s Bruce Wayne or Spider-Man’s Peter Parker, the superhero lived a separate life from the public persona.
The secret identity made for an interesting situation because Clark Kent fell in love with a co-worker / reporter, Lois Lane. Clark was also a reporter for the Daily Planet, a newspaper publisher in the city of Metropolis. Working side-by-side with a hottie was just too much for a man, even for a dedicated superhero. Love is not unusual among superheroes. Spider-Man married his high school crush, Mary Jane. Wonder Woman was romantically entangled with Steve Trevor.
Besides love, friendship among superheroes is also common. For Superman, it’s Batman and/or Wonder Woman. He often worked these two in some form to fend off a heavy duty threat. DC had been publishing a comic book series and animation DVDs starring Superman and Batman together.
