First appearing in 1939, Batman is one of the world’s favorite superhero. Batman, Superman, and Spider-Man are perhaps the top 3 most popular superheroes.

Batman is merely a man. But he seems to beat super-powered opponents every time. He doesn’t have uber strength like Superman nor does he have scientifically-enhanced physique and reflexes like Spider-Man.

But what makes Batman a superhero is his smarts. Sure Spiderman is a brilliant science student who invented his own web shooter and web fluid (old school comics, not the movies). But Batman can solve complex puzzles brought about by insane criminal minds such as Joker and Riddler. He is referred to, at times, as “The World’s Greatest Detective” because he’s a master of forensic science and criminilogy. Often, we see Batman in his Batcave planning the solution to a problem and equipping himself appropriately before heading out. Gotham police often calls him when they are stumped.
